The dance

What is ballroom?

Ballroom is the family of elegant, musical partner dances — waltz, foxtrot, tango, Viennese waltz, and quickstep — that show up at weddings, galas, and every Studio 22 social. If you’re going to learn one, start with waltz. It offers something for every ability level.

We teach American Smooth (more free-flowing, with room to open out and express) and International Standard (classic closed-embrace technique). Same studio, same welcoming floor — whether you want a wedding waltz or a lifetime hobby.

Cody and Maya teach 90-minute group classes with two instructors on the floor. You’ll learn frame, timing, and patterns you can use at a Ballroom & Latin Social the same month you start.

Dances in this style

Waltz

If you’re going to learn one ballroom dance, this is it. American Style is free-flowing; International is classic closed embrace. Both are beautiful.

Foxtrot

Fun, easy, and danced to big band, swing, or ’50s rock and roll. Great for crowded wedding floors. We teach American Smooth and International.

Ballroom Tango

Steamy and sultry. American Style uses larger, exuberant movement; International is more closely held. Confident footwork with a flair for performance.

Viennese Waltz & Quickstep

Viennese turns twice as fast as a standard waltz. Quickstep is hopping, skipping, and gliding — exuberant, precise, and a joy once the basics click.

What first-time dancers say

You don’t need experience. You need a studio that makes beginners feel at home.

I came alone and was nervous. By the end of class I was laughing and already booking my next night. Best decision I made this year.

Jordan M.

First-time salsa student

Studio 22 is much more than simply a place to dance. It’s a place to learn about the possibilities within ourselves, and the staff makes it the best experience possible.

TeQuan Johnson

Social dance student

By far Studio 22 is the best. No one compares. Instructors take the time to help each student step by step, and they make learning fun.

Ballroom questions

Common concerns from first-time dancers. We've heard them all.

Waltz. It’s the world’s most loved ballroom dance, works at weddings, and sets up foxtrot and Viennese later. Tell the front desk you’re new — they’ll put you in the right beginner series.
