The dance

What is two-step?

Two-Step is a smooth, progressive dance danced in frame, with weaved patterns and rhythm accents that separate the quicks and slows — emphasizing the slows. The basic is two short walking steps (“quick-quick”) followed by two longer walking steps (“slow-slow”).

In Dallas/Fort Worth you’ll also hear Progressive Double Two-Step, Triple Two, Nightclub Two-Step, and Country Waltz. They’re all built for social floors — the kind of dancing you take to a Saturday night out.

Bobby Pritchard teaches two-step. Jim Weber teaches Progressive Double Two-Step — including years as the instructor at Cowboys Red River. Classes are 90 minutes, partners rotate, and you’ll leave with patterns that work on a real country floor.

Dances in this style

Two-Step

Taught by Bobby Pritchard. Smooth, progressive, danced in frame. Quick-quick, slow-slow — the Texas social dance you’ll use most.

Progressive Double Two-Step

Taught by Jim Weber. A DFW favorite. Six- and eight-count patterns: two shuffle steps with an arching lead, then two walking steps. Popular on local country floors.

Nightclub Two-Step

A more relaxed, stationary hold — think “Lady in Red.” Developed by Buddy Schwimmer and still one of the most useful slow-song dances.

Country Western Waltz

Graceful diagonal patterns that travel continuously around the floor in the line of dance — different from the ballroom box waltz.

What first-time dancers say

You don’t need experience. You need a studio that makes beginners feel at home.

I came alone and was nervous. By the end of class I was laughing and already booking my next night. Best decision I made this year.

Jordan M.

First-time salsa student

Studio 22 is much more than simply a place to dance. It’s a place to learn about the possibilities within ourselves, and the staff makes it the best experience possible.

TeQuan Johnson

Social dance student

By far Studio 22 is the best. No one compares. Instructors take the time to help each student step by step, and they make learning fun.

Two-Step questions

Common concerns from first-time dancers. We've heard them all.

Yes. Bobby teaches social two-step and Jim teaches Progressive Double Two-Step — the dances you’ll actually use at Dallas/Fort Worth country venues. Jim taught for years at Cowboys Red River.
